The
SCDS Comets compete in
basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, and track. Because of their ages and stages of physical development, the players range from gawky to gifted and eager to experienced at the outset, but with the support and encouragement of SCDS coaches, the differences smooth out and the individuals soon grow into teams. SCDS gives Upper School girls and boys who might never have had a chance to play in a more aggressive setting the space and opportunity to
develop dexterity and confidence. The Comets routinely prevail in league competition and many players make the team in high school.
SCDS' sports teams
compete against local schools in the
Middle School Sports League. Since the opening of our Farrow Gym in 2002, almost all competitions are held at SCDS, however our teams will occasionally travel. In January we host the
Comet Invitational, a round-robin basketball tournament filled with nail-biting excitement.
Students also participate in a wide range of sports during physical arts classes. These classes aid development of movement, organization and social skills, and teach students the importance of exercise and fitness to overall health.
