Major Gifts Program

Sonoma Country Day School has a variety of funds established by donors for either a specific purpose or to support a designated program. Assets in these funds are temporarily or permanently restricted according to the donor’s wishes. Our four strategic priorities are described below:

Sustain and Steward
Unrestricted major gifts are the most valuable for meeting the needs of the school and ensuring our long-term financial viability. They provide the greatest flexibility in prioritizing investment and use of funds. Stewarding our resources thoughtfully sets an excellent example for our SCDS community; offers educational opportunities for students, families, and our greater community; and contributes to our long-term sustainability.

Cultivate Innovation
Cultivating innovation in our classrooms, our teaching, and in our children’s perspectives is vital. Supporting our most special programs–from core academic subjects (math, science and language arts) to the arts (music, art and drama) and athletics, but also ecology, cultural literacy, ethics, and social responsibility–will ensure their long-term impact on children.

Nurture Faculty
The relationship between our teachers and their students is the foundation of learning. Building the Philip C. Nix Faculty Fund, established in 2009 to honor the school’s founding headmaster, will guarantee that our faculty remain our top priority and our most precious resource. Gifts to this fund help faculty now and in the future as the board or trustees will designate 25% of all gifts to the endowment. Funds will recognize extraordinary teaching, reward exceptional service, and help pay for professional development, benefits, and retirement packages.

Fulfill a Public Purpose
Advancing our public purpose as an institution and as one of the highest ideals for our graduates is of critical importance to our long-term success and relevance in our community. Service learning and civic engagement as an organization are important to realizing this strategic priority.

Our major donors and community leaders are acknowledged at an invitation-only annual Founders' Circle cocktail party held in the spring.
